Job Description

Our Client is a leading retailer and wholesaler of School wears and accessories, supplying high and mid-end private primary & secondary Schools. The company has retail shops in Lagos and Abuja and delivers in wholesale quantities directly to various customers across Nigeria.In line with its expansion goals, the company is looking to hire a Chief Operating Officer to take up the unique challenge of overseeing its business operations and marketing. The Manager will work closely with the Chief Executive Officer to define the long term strategic goals of the company; develop the approach to executing the plans and steer the organisation and its staff towards achieving same.


The Chief Operating Officer will broadly be responsible for the following:

1. Overseeing the company’s operations – ensuring an efficient harmonisation of infrastructure, processes and human resources. Furthermore will oversee the company’s supply chain management

2. Coordinate operations of all the retail outlets to maintain efficiency and ensure sales targets are met

3. Defining and setting the overall and strategic goals of the company, while working with the staff to drive the company’s business – Providing leadership and direction to the staff

4. Managing the company’s external intelligence gathering system to ensure it is well positioned to remain competitive. The key local market parameters to be regularly evaluated will include following:a. Market structure, size and growthb. Market trendsc. Competitive landscaped. Customer segmentation and analysise. Relevant regulatory environment

5. Managing the company’s marketing and sales. This will entail the following:a. Working with the CEO, its business development team to coordinate the development and execution of the company’s marketing strategy across its product development, price fixing, promotions and distribution network ensuring the company meets its sales target


- Possess strong leadership, strategic/analytical thinking, problem solving, value creation and execution skills

– with the capacity to conduct sound business analysis- Have experience in a similar role with a track record for success

– consistently achieving sales target set- Have direct or indirect broad industry experience in at least the education and/or retail/wholesale (FMCG) sector- Have broad functional expertise in at least three of the following

– marketing and sales, operations management (especially supply chain management), strategy, organisation and corporate finance- Have excellent emotional intelligence skill with the ability to provide leadership and promote team playing skills

- Have good relationship management skills with experience managing top clients

- Have project management skills with experience overseeing the execution of mid to large scale projects and results to show for same

- Have 8 – 10 years’ work experience and currently at a minimum of manager level

- Be well exposed with a broad understanding of markets and industries

– while having a grasp of economic, social and political trends
