Job Description

The UK Legal and Compliance team of approximately 85, is based mainly in Frimley, Surrey, but also has teams throughout the UK in Manchester, Newcastle, Sheffield, Lincoln, Nottingham, London and Poole. The department comprises six teams working with the four main sectors for Energy, Industry, Infrastructure and Cities and Healthcare and, in addition, a Cross-Sector team and a Corporate & Finance team.

The Commercial Lawyer joining the Energy team will proactively provide advice and support to the Energy Transmission business throughout the lifecycle of projects. The role and responsibilities will include the following key activities: 

Providing support to the contract management and tendering teams, reviewing customer conditions and advising on risk profiles prior to submission of tenders. 
Ensuring internal governance is adhered to prior to submission of tenders. 
Ensuring effective legal risk management. 
Advising on a range of ancillary issues and documents. 
Drafting and negotiating the agreement of customer terms and conditions. 
Supporting procurement in the drafting and negotiating of major supply contracts. 
Delivering training to both legal and non-legal colleagues. 
Working closely with the major projects team advising on contract interpretation and the delivery of projects in the execution phase. 
Supporting and advising throughout the dispute resolution process. 


Fully qualified solicitor practising in England and Wales with proven post-qualification experience at a multinational company or law firm. 
Experience in advising on, and working with, most standard form contracts. 
Ability to deal confidently and build strong relationships with senior business colleagues. 
Ability to build relationships with multinational teams. 
A flexible attitude and a proven ability to multi-task.
