Job Description

We are seeking a Director of Communications to develop a clear UK communications vision and strategy. Reporting to the General Manager of Roche UK, you will contribute to the leadership and management of the Roche UK affiliate, and lead the Public Relations, Public Affairs, Corporate Affairs and Digital Communications strategies to support cross portfolio objectives and brand plans.

Working to improve access to medicines and the UK’s funding environment, you will provide strategic direction and drive first class implementation of activities by the communications team. There is also a requirement to fully understand the market access environment and the role will require close collaboration with the Market Development team to ensure that policy can be put into practice within the NHS.


You will demonstrate a proven track record in media relations and have excellent external media, patient groups and policy contacts. You will also be responsible for crisis and issues management strategies. In overseeing the delivery of the cross portfolio digital strategy you will also be proactive in identifying opportunities and driving competency in digital communications. Supporting senior leaders with their communications needs, you will also manage internal and change communications, as well as facilitating discussion and agreement with global and regional Roche functions.

Additionally, you will also be responsible for communications compliance and take a personal responsibility for maintaining high ethical standards.

Overall, you will provide vision and direction to all communications staff, mobilise and manage optimal resource allocation as well as attract, develop and retain talent. You will create and lead a high performing team and provide a stimulating and motivating work environment based on talent management and the achievement of business objectives.


To qualify for this role you will have extensive experience in leading integrated healthcare communications teams and an in-depth knowledge of internal and external communications within the UK landscape. It is essential that you have a sound knowledge of the UK healthcare and reimbursement system.

You will need to be fluent in English and hold a degree in life sciences, politics, or a communications discipline. MBA or post graduate studies would also be beneficial, but are not essential.

Possessing excellent written, verbal and listening skills you will be an accomplished influencer and negotiator with experience of conflict resolution, major crisis situations and issues.

With a track record of strong performance you must have a proven ability of co-operative, collaborating working with diverse stakeholders and senior leaders within a matrix organisation, as well as proficiency in leading medium-sized teams.
