Job Description

Parsons Brinckerhoff is seeking an Electrical Engineer Transmission & Distribution Networks.
The company provides high profile Advisory, Consulting and Project Management Services in the power sector to governments, utilities and developers and has a strong track record in engineering projects assignments, including transmission projects with the support of the international resources of the PB group of companies.
Projects have a project life cycle. The nature of assignments PB Power gets involved in can be at any stage of the project life cycle. It can be at the conceptual phase and vary from feasibility studies to the execution phase including full commissioning and hand over of new or refurbished power systems. The voltage can be anything from 400KV, down to 11KV. The Electrical Engineer is a junior Engineering position in the latter phase of Training. It is intended that there will still be rotation between different sections (Substation, Protection and OHL Design, Project Management and Studies) within Power Networks, however increasing responsibility will be taken by the Electrical Engineer, while still working under supervision of a Senior Engineer.
T&D Project Manager is responsible for resource allocation and alignment of project in the execution phase and ensures a focus on project delivery to the satisfaction of our clients and within the project parameters.


Responsibilities:   Increase and deepen knowledge and experience in specialist areas of Power Networks (as applicable):
  • T&D power system simulations and studies
  • T&D substation design (Primary and Secondary equipment)
  • T&D line design
  • T&D projects 
  • Technical documentation and package knowledge, measurement of design quality, expand use of BMS forms and procedures
  • Proactively drive project milestones toward on time completion
  • Achieve or improve the profit margins set for the individual projects as determined at project inception
  • Review, re-forecast and correct as necessary project accounts and WIP figures for the month
  • Average billability of 55% or more
  • Assist with business development and preparation of proposals to provide consulting services for transmission engineering
  • Progress towards Professional Registration
  • Interfacing with clients, project managers, project team members, T&D Networks manager, engineers, international PB specialists and sub-consultants, contractors, suppliers, etc.
  • Reports to T&D Networks Manager / Chief Substation Engineer / Chief Studies Engineer


Qualifications, Competencies and Experience:
  • University Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Application for professional registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa
  • Specialist knowledge in Heavy Current Electrical Engineering and Substation and Studies knowledge
  • 2 Years Transmission and Distribution project experience
  • Computer literate
  • Working experience in Transmission and Distribution Substation / Studies Projects
  • Ability to work well in a team and lead a team of engineers
  • University degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to define, manage and coordinate inputs from other technical specialists
  • Ability to work unsupervised and manage time, quality and effort in order to meet project deliverables
  • Market related and highly negotiable TCTC
