Job Description

The Financial Services M&A team at Ernst & Young advises governments, large and mid-cap financial institutions and entrepreneurial businesses on business reviews, acquisitions, disposals, leveraged transactions, financings, takeovers and mergers. In spite of unprecedented market conditions, the team has performed very successfully. We are seeking to build on this success and grow the origination and execution capacity of the team through recruitment at Executive level.

The role is London based, but the team is also expanding into continental Europe which could provide additional opportunities for the right candidate. 

Client responsibilities:

  • Understand how and why value is added to clients through the deal process.
  • Apply core technical and commercial skills to a variety of situations.
  • Model the financial implications of transactions.
  • Creative in the sourcing and use of information and able to make sensible assumptions where appropriate.
  • Absorb new technical information quickly, and quickly develop a deep understanding of the strategic rationale for transactions.
  • Research and analyse key value drivers at a market and business level.
  • Research thoroughly and present information clearly.
  • Prepare client reports advising on fund-raising, restructuring, acquisitions and disposals.
  • Prepare information memoranda upon the disposal of businesses and research target profiles on acquisitions.
  • Produce work to tight deadlines, often under pressure.
  • Sound commercial judgment and an ability to generate creative solutions to problems and 'think on your feet'.
  • Perform assignment administration tasks.

  • People responsibilities:
  • Take responsibility for own workload, ensuring utilized fully and that all tasks are efficiently completed.
  • Keep the team informed of progress, drawing issues to their attention and discussing conclusions with them.
  • Develop negotiation skills.
  • Requirements

    Technical skills requirements: 

  • Excellent commercial exposure to high level clients and issues.
  • Able to thrive under pressure and work effectively as a team.
  • Committed to working under pressure to tight deadlines. Long hours and weekend work are not uncommon.
  • Demonstrate strong numerical and financial skills and an understanding of financial statements.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Able to maintain a high level of confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Seek feedback on performance and drive own development.

  • Additional skills requirements:
  • ACA/MBA qualified or similar.
  • A high standard of spoken and written English is essential.
  • Foreign language skills are valuable but not essential, as the team expands in Continental Europe.
  • Leverage self confidence to ensure comfortable and relaxed in client situations.
  • Self-starter and fast learner.
