The Submarines business has an opportunity for a Fluid Systems Team Leader, working within the Submarine Systems team at our offices at Raynesway, Derby.
Our Team Leaders play a key role in the management of our technical design teams. This includes providing guidance on solutions that are proposed for various problems, managing delivery of these work packages as well as coaching and developing the teams to enable them to succeed and grow.
As the role requires coordination of various activities concerned with the system definition of the plant, integration across wider business areas and analysis of the behaviour of the plant, it requires a broad range of skills. These include some of the following:
- Experience of coordinating work across a team.
- Good understanding of fundamental engineering principles and processes.
- Requirements definition and management, risk and change management process experience.
- Proven ability to coordinate a programme of work across multiple tasks / projects.
In addition to the above, there are various technical skills expected from those within the team. These include the definition of operating procedures and component specifications. Fluid flow analysis and heat transfer analysis is primarily focused on pipe work systems, to determine system losses, pressure drops, pump design, pressure vessel sizing and heat exchanger sizing. Evaluation techniques used to support a safety justification will involve hazard identification (HAZOP), fault tree assessments, generation of Failure Mode and Effect Criticality Analysis (FMECAs) and implementation of As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP) principles.
