This position provides specialized support through the application of technical skills, to the delivery of Halcrow CH2M HILL services.
The Geotechnical Inspector has deep knowledge of procedures and technical concepts within own area and understands the associated regulations and standards. He/she evaluates and resolves problems by reviewing multiple sources of information and drawing conclusions, and assists less experienced team members in using technology. This requirement includes completing a variety of non-routine technical assignments independently.
The Inspector is responsible for their own safety and the safety of others. Full H&S training will be provided. Where gaps in knowledge exist the inspector must inform Halcrow’s CQC Engineer immediately.
Typical duties will see you support the Geotechnical Engineer in the development of the necessary geotechnical design for earthworks, foundations and site investigations. You shall prepare geotechnical & environmental reports to support your work.
Assist the Geotechnical Engineer and RE in supervising the contractor by:
Assist in monitoring contractor’s progress and reporting to client;
Anticipation and warning on issues which may impact on targeted time or cost outcomes;
Surveillance of excavation works (sequencing, excavatability)
Witnessing installation and inspection of rock bolting and shotcrete works
Witnessing routine testing of rock bolts
Witnessing installation and inspection of geotechnical instrumentation (strain gauges, extensometers)
Witnessing installation and inspection of pipe umbrella works for inlet chamber (and any other ground support systems not yet identified)
Witnessing installation and inspection of GRP bolts
Witnessing installation and inspection of pressure relief holes
Initial review of geotechnical monitoring data
Support to ‘Tunneling Engineer’ (ref ADSSC spec S02005 clause 1.3)
As a Geotechnical Inspector you shall have an exceptional Geotechnical Engineering knowledge of earth works, foundation design; soil mechanics and associated contract preparation.
Associates Degree or 2 years of formal technical training, or equivalent experience
Excellent communication skills;
Total experience of more than 5 years and a relevant site supervision experience in the Middle East
