The Project Manager will work within the Project Delivery Services (PDS) team for the EMC IT Project management competency centre. Take responsibility for the delivery of internal IT focused projects from receipt of the requirements to delivery. The Project Manager must have the ability to manage a number of projects concurrently and to exemplary standards, have a very clear delivery focus and be adept at managing change. The Project Manager should be an effective communicator both within their peer group and to the project stakeholders. Be actively involved in risk mitigation and control of issues as well as facilitating post-implementation reviews. Works with a team of professionals that bring together the full range of technical competencies needed to assist Senior Management with the successful achievement of their priorities, consistent with EMC’s goals and objectives. The IT Project Manager is responsible for the overall day to day management of small/medium/ large IT projects, spanning primarily Infrastructure and Security.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Liaises with technical project leads to develop and maintain schedule and resource plans.
Maintains project quality & focus.
Works with Business Analyst and/or Technical Lead to prepare project scope and technical design documentation.
Facilitates sessions to review and update scope and design documentation until sign-off is achieved.
Works with Functional Managers and Functional Finance group to determine and manage the required project budget. Monitors, controls & reports on project expenditure against approved budget.Identifies and manages project risks and issues for the duration of the project. Maintain issue/risk log and facilitate lessons learned review at project closure.Managing and tracking effort, cost, progress and highlighting ways to keep the project on track in spite of issues – "can do" attitude is essential.Ability to clearly monitor and report to senior management on project progress with respect to effort, cost and duration and key milestones.Managing and facilitating communication across project teams and individual feature teams of varying sizes; sometimes located in different sites and time zones. Maintaining group dynamic to facilitate individuals working as a team.Providing clear leadership to the team and making informed decisions on various options presented.Responsible for establishing communication plans and delivering project status by publishing high quality project reports and presentations. Participates in functional Operational Decision Team meetings and assists in materials preparation for Portfolio Decision team meetings. Directs project team members assigned to the project and associated work tasks in a matrix environment. May provide input into performance reviews and quarterly goals. Establishes and maintains a close-working relationship with each of the IT groups, especially the IT Infrastructure teams. Successfully works with IT peers to develop, test and deliver IT solutions.
