Job Description

Job Summary:

Incumbents complete and oversee a variety of professional assignments to facilitate the completion of all Company Projects; and the completion of legal descriptions for the taking and marking of right-of-way. Work is performed by measuring the distance between natural or man-made features, identifying the boundaries between different pieces of land, and/or map the natural or man-made features found in a particular area. All these information is essential to the Construction Planners, Engineers and other professionals who need to plan their work around the features of a particular area.

Duties and Responsibilities:

* Assess land due for redevelopment, survey a range of different areas, including landfill sites, and pipeline and distribution systems.

* Discuss specific project requirements with clients; measuring the ground as required by the client (including aspects such as small and large-scale distances, angles, elevations, etc.);

* Gathering data on the earth's physical and man-made features through surveys;
processing data; undertaking digital mapping; producing detailed information (subsequently analysed by planners and builders); using a range of equipment to produce surveys, including GPS and conventional methods;

* Analyzing information thoroughly before it is handed over to other professionals;

* Thinking creatively to resolve practical planning and development problems;

* Interpreting data using maps, charts and plans; utilizing data from a range of sources, such as aerial photography, satellite surveys and laser beam measuring systems;

* Using computer-aided design (CAD) and other IT software to interpret data and present information;

* keeping up to date with new and emerging technology and providing advice to a range of clients.

Skills and Qualities:

* Knowledge of geographical information systems (GIS) and AutoCAD, and general IT skills;

* Decision-making skills and the ability to work independently and handle responsibility;

* Oral and written communication skills;

* High levels of numeracy;

* Map work orientation skills (for work in the field);

* Accuracy, especially when using equipment;

* The capacity to identify problems quickly and to offer solutions;

* The ability to conceptualise 2D and 3D information.

Education and Requirements:

* HND or Bachelors Degree in the Following Fields: geographic information science; surveying and mapping science; land/estate surveying; geography/physical geography; earth science; geology; environmental science; civil/structural engineering; mathematics; physics, applied science and any other related field.

* At least 3 years proven experience in Land Surveying.
