Job Description

Parsons Brinckerhoff is seeking a Mechanical Supervisor, responsible to provide an efficient construction site supervision service during the execution of capital projects for the Civil and Building discipline taking into account time, cost, quality, safety and environmental policies and procedures on the Medupi Power Plant Project.

  • Contract administration – up keep of contract files
  • Manage the Contractors, Sub-Contractors and Service Level Agreements
  • Manage the stakeholders which include the contractors, various Eskom departments and facilities requirements
  • Perform good relationship management between contract management office, projects and external contractors
  • Supervise and ensure that all statutory inspections and tests are executed before plant is put into operation
  • Maintain the contract compliance and assurance to minimize contractual risk to CED Projects
  • Through plant inspections and audits, ensure that the OHS Act and construction regulations are complied to.
  Risk Management - Quality:
  • Responsible for the implementation and upkeep of quality control plans
  • Conduct quality inspections on site to ensure compliance to specifications as pre engineering specifications. Sign off quality control documentation
  • Conduct contractual risk assessments to prevent non conformance
  • Raise Corrective Action Reports (CAR’s) when deviations are noted from the required scope of work or contract conditions
  • Supervise materials planning and scheduling
    Risk Management – Construction Safety:
  • Conduct safety risk assessments – where high risk plant work is executed
  • Conduct inspections of all tools, protective clothes and equipment, and provide guidance on how to use equipments in a correct and safe manager
  • Actively participate in Contractors daily toolbox session and advise accordingly
  • Supervise and ensure contractors’ legal compliance as per the OHS Act and Construction Regulations through regular auditing
  • Supervise and raise corrective actions (CAR’s) through plant inspections and safety audits
  • Manage and ensure that corrective actions are reported and closed out
  • Be authorized as a Responsible Person as per the Plant Safety Regulations
  • Issue a Stop Work Order if the Contractor does not comply 
  Planning and Scheduling:
  • Chair meetings with different contractors and Eskom departments to ensure proper integration between contractors
  • Conduct regular communication sessions / meetings with regards to the progress on site with all relevant stakeholders
  • Provide input into the Project Masters Program to ensure integration of the various Eskom departments
  • Analyze work methods to improve productivity
  • Receives and verifies the updated program received from the contractor
  • Take the necessary steps to correct the contractors program if not complying
  • Ensure contractors compliance to program and take steps to bring the program back on line if necessary
  Technical Interfaces
  • Interface with Engineering during the scope construction
  • Manage the Interfaces with other Contract packages
  • Have an in-depth knowledge of the works information and all standards specified
  • Manage and control all deviations as specified in the works information (Obtain input from GBE where applicable)
  • Determine technical risks and take mitigation actions
  • Management of the plant commissioning activities to ensure compliance to practices, standards, procedures and relevant legislation
  • Compile technical reports on incidents
  • Supervise that the appropriate equipment and resources are available as and when required
  • Interacting with all relevant stakeholders in terms of project and contract delivery
  • Ensure compliance to the OHS Act


Qualifications, Competencies and Experience: 
  • Mechanical / Electrical related qualification
  • 6 Years in construction environment. Must have related experience in office/high-rise/shopping centre construction
  • Communication skills with all stakeholders including client, managers and contractors
  • Knowledge and experience of the site lifestyle, traveling and living out for long periods
