Job Description

Role description

Monitor Deloitte's Digital Strategy team, ranked Number 1 in the world for digital strategy by Kennedy Research, works with senior executives in the private and public sectors to accelerate their growth using digital business models and working practices. We develop short-to-medium term portfolios of initiatives that create immediate growth, while designing strategic visions, organisation designs and operating models that enable that growth to be sustainable over the long term.

We undertake digital strategy assignments for the world's largest brands, applying a rich portfolio of techniques and intellectual property that Monitor Deloitte has built up over fifteen years of work in Digital Strategy.

The Digital Strategy team is also a vehicle for testing innovative ways of working, combining classical strategy techniques with collaborative, creative methods to generate and rapidly test great business concepts. We emphasise open discussion of issues, extensive collaboration with our clients and creative thinking over desk-based research and ‘ground-up’ analysis.

Our team’s previous projects have included:

  • Working with a major UK betting company to investigate innovative new business models, which would enable the company to exploit regulatory change and market liquidity to monetise different areas of the digital value chain.

  • Developing a strategy for repositioning and reorganising a multinational business data provider to defend itself from disruption from digital startups, optimise its existing operations and create innovation centres that would accelerate its growth.

  • Creating a strategy for a UK academic book distributor to develop and launch new digital products aimed at higher education buyers and grow the business in emerging European digital markets.

  • Developing a growth strategy for a social network, including designing an approach to gameification and a monetisation roadmap.

  • Helping a well-known fashion brand use digital as a differentiator and growth engine in its product design, channel and supply chain.

We have published dozens of papers on digital and are renowned as specialists in digital strategy, leadership, new ways of working, innovation and digital media.

Digital Strategy is a fun, dynamic place to work and build your career. We are experiencing very high demand for our services and are therefore seeking to increase the size of our exceptional London-based team.

If you have strong prior experience in a commercial digital role, and a real passion for digital, then we can offer you an unrivalled opportunity to accelerate your career in a unique practice within a fast-growing global firm. As well as building your strategic skills by working on a range of cases across many sectors, we will help you develop your team leadership, commercial insight and client-management skills through project delivery and become an internal thought-leader by developing our IP.

As part of an “internal start-up” development and progression will be steep ‑ we anticipate you will be able to take up the reigns and manage full projects for the some of Europe’s largest organisations within a two-year time frame.  We will provide a range of support to help you reach this ambitious goal ‑ from bespoke career development advice, to on-the-job training, to access to a vast catalogue of formal training opportunities.

The Senior Consultant will have responsibility for:

  • Digital strategy development ‑ working with our team to develop and test strategic hypotheses across a number of business domains and industries

  • Workshop facilitation ‑ leading collaborative strategy development sessions with clients, using proven Monitor Deloitte IP and methodologies

  • Team Management ‑ managing the inputs of other people from strategy and other parts of our business to support strategy development (as project size requires)

  • Working closely with clients and third parties, such as academics from The Deloitte Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the London Business School

  • Liaising with other internal teams (e.g. Technology, Deloitte Digital, Economic Consulting) to ensure client experience is seamless

  • Supporting the business development programme by leading and contributing to proposals for clients

  • Developing and socialising Digital Strategy’s methods, IP and research agenda

Although we are based in London, Monitor Deloitte Digital Strategy works with all of Deloitte’s member firms in EMEA and all of our people have the opportunity to travel and work outside the UK from time-to-time.

Digital Strategists come from a broad range of backgrounds, so we like to keep an open mind. Besides natural intellectual curiosity, an entrepreneurial mind-set and a preference for collaboration, to qualify for the role you must have:

  • A minimum of 3 years cumulative work experience in a commercial role related to digital

  • An undergraduate degree (2:1 or above)

  • Demonstrable ability to think through complex problems in a structured manner

  • Ability to operate effectively with limited direction

Additional desirable experience includes:

  • A longer tenure with a relevant firm

  • Experience in setting up digital ventures

  • A digital presence that demonstrates your familiarity with the domain

  • Experience using analytics and/ or visualisation software, particularly SPSS and Tableau
