As an Operations Architect, you will be helping Fortune 1000 Companies progress along their IT operations transformation journey. This includes designing, planning for, and assisting customers with their IT organizational transformation. It also includes assessing for, designing, and implementing IT operational processes optimized to take advantage of enabling VMware management product capabilities. The Operations Architect will interact at multiple levels within a customer account and must be able to demonstrate strong operations remediation skills, thought leadership, and have a commitment to the customer. You will be responsible for owning the solution which includes; the business impact, assessment, gap analysis, design, implementation, and validation. A successful Operations Architect must have a positive attitude and feel comfortable working with all levels in an organization. You may be working with the Account Team, Enterprise Architects, IT Operations, Directors, VP’s, and CXO’s.

The Operations Architect may work autonomously to build customized operations transformation solutions to meet a client’s unique business needs. Building a solution may include activities such as running workshops, conducting client interviews, secondary research, input from the Account Team, working with specialists, product managers, and other stakeholders. The Operations Architect should have excellent listening skills, interpersonal skills, ability to solve complex operational problems, be a big picture thinker and be able to visualize the solution. With a clear and agreed upon client vision, you will be responsible for designing and implementing the solution to realize the vision. As the Operations Architect you will be responsible for owning the solution and support the creation of detailed proposals, scoping work effort estimates, and contributing to statements of work.

As an Operations Architect, you will be responsible for the design of complex operational transformational solutions. In this operational transformation leadership position you should feel comfortable in leading the development of solutions. The role requires tools, frameworks, and design patterns for solutions. You will be asked to contribute to those frameworks, develop reusable intellectual property (IP), and mentor internal & external stakeholders on the use of the IP. You will be working as part of a team with similar charters. To effectively build complex strategies it is important to build a strong network among your peers and internal & external teams. You should be ready to take ownership of the initiatives and programs to aid in delivering of solutions.

The ideal candidate will have a good mix of Operations-related Consulting Skills, Business Acumen, and a strong desire to support the customer. The ideal candidate will need to understand the detail behind the solutions and also be able to communicate the high level vision. You will be acting as a lead in transforming customer’s IT operations and should have a broad understanding of IT organizational and operational considerations as they relate to VMware’s technology in addition to deep domain level expertise in the following area:

  • Management and Operations



  • Ability to understand VMware’s management product capabilities as well as their organizational and operational implications as they relate to SDDC/Cloud/Hybrid Cloud

  • Drive practice business development with Services Sales Executives as well as Business Solutions Strategists and Architects to support pre-sales activities, with a primary focus on scoping work, creating proposals and contributing to statements of work and RFPs.

  • Maintain expert level depth of knowledge within the operations transformation area

  • Provide high level operations transformation direction and expertise in services pre-sales discussions with clients

  • Work with VMware’s Professional Services Engineering team to define, develop and implement tools and documentation needed to ensure uniformity of solutions approach

  • Ensure best practices in operations transformation and consultative approaches are established within formal contractual mechanisms (i.e. SOW)

  • Effectively communicate operations transformation solutions architecture to the customer, third parties and the delivery teams

  • Work with VMware’s Professional Services Engineering team to develop new services and solutions.

  • Participate in regional events to promote services practice, network with industry peers and maintain expertise

  • Maintain proficiency in VMware’s operations transformation capabilities, value propositions, and representative case studies

  • Obtain continuous feedback from the field, including customers, bringing IP back to Professional Services Engineering and making recommendations on future operations transformation capabilities



  • 10+ years of relevant IT operations consulting experience

  • 8+ years of experience with modern IT operations methodologies such as ITIL, ISO27001, ISO20000, and MOF with emphasis on IT process improvement

  • Minimum 5+ years business development experience in a consulting and/or professional services environment

  • Experience in a technical lead role for small or medium size teams

  • Strong presentation, executive client management and business development skills

  • Superior organizational and negotiation skills

  • Proven experience with system management and monitoring tools (VMware, BMC, HP, IBM/Tivoli, CA, Microsoft)

  • Proven experience developing workflows with IT automation/orchestration tools.

  • Proven experience delivering IT organization transformation projects

  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills

  • Experience with IT financial management tools and service costing process desirable

  • Experience with compliance management and governance tools desirable

  • Proven experience in executive communication and presentation delivery

  • Ability to travel up to 30%

  • ITIL v3 Foundation

  • BSc/BA/MSc degree or equivalent operations/technical training
