Job Description

Position Summary:

Parsons Brinckerhoff is seeking an Electrical Engineer Overhead Line Design to provide line design services for clients in Southern Africa and also internationally. Technical design responsibility on transmission and distribution (T&D) line design projects.
Our well-established and highly respected company in South Africa, with projects across Africa, wishes to strengthen its transmission engineering capacity.
The company provides high profile Advisory, Consulting and Project Management Services in the power sector to governments, utilities and developers and has a strong track record in engineering project assignments, including transmission projects with the support of the international resources of the PB group of companies.



• Prepare designs, specifications and tender documents for line project to internationally accepted standards for transmission and distribution systems for clients in Southern Africa and also internationally
• Assist clients with all aspects of line design
• Tender evaluation of offers submitted by contractors
• Review and approve detailed designs of lines submitted by contractors
• Provide engineering support during the execution phase of T&D projects including responding to technical queries, factory inspection and testing of materials and monitoring progress of construction on site
• Assist with preparation of proposals
• Maintain and develop key skills and competencies in line design
• Interfacing with clients, project managers, project team members, Manager Power Networks, international PB specialists and sub-consultants
• Reporting to Manager Engineering


Qualifications, Competencies and Experience:

• University Degree in Electrical Engineering
• Professional registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa or advanced in the process of registration
• Line design and templating software proficiency e.g. PLS-CADD, PLS-TOWER and similar design packages
• Good understanding of interface points e.g. EIA, line survey, aerial survey, geotechnical and earthing
• Ideally not less than 3 years experience in line design
• Experience on projects in Southern Africa
• Understanding of utility planning, design, operation and maintenance
• Technically competent in line electrical design engineering
• Ability to work well in a team
• Ability to define, manage and coordinate inputs from other technical specialists
• Ability to work unsupervised and manage time, quality and effort in order to meet project deliverables
• Good communication skills
• Willing for international and local travel required
