Job Description

Our Client, a forerunner in the pharmaceutical industry with branches and offices across Africa seeks qualified, experienced and highly dedicated individual to fill the following position


Main purpose of Position:

  • Responsible for managing, developing and directing the team to successfully promote Company
  • Sell the company’s products to the medical and pharmaceutical professions, through building lasting and beneficial business relationships.
  • Ensure the team attains or exceeds agreed sales targets and market share, maximizing sales potential for designated product ranges, as well as tailored strategies to meet the needs of the pharmacy and decision makers.

Key Performance Areas

1.       Team effectiveness management and coaching:

  • Appoint, build and maintain a first class cohesive team and provide ongoing motivation; encourage work-life balance
  • Implement appropriate recognition and incentive schemes to align the team with company goats and drive performance
  • Facilitate departmental and interdepartmental collaborate’ participation, communication and support.

2.       Developed Territory Action Plan (TAP) and provision of leadership:

  • Assess and prioritize:- business opportunities; customer needs; the regional selling environment; brand campaigns; adjust territory call plans and create rep call plans in territory aligned to segmentation and  targeting exercise; team resources/capabilities; and company requirements
  • Think strategically and develop and implement a territory action plan (TAP) that reflects focused analysis and the longer-term objectives of Company

3.       Managed and achieved Territory Action Plan:

  • Ensure that objectives and standards of performance are understood and owned by Representatives in the team
  • Implement and monitor the plan; ensure C-SMART actions are carried out effectively and assess impact; identity and address gaps as required

4.       Maintained administrative systems and control

Effectively use tools and data for monitoring and controlling the regions performance against business plan and budget including:

  • Partners Sales to local customers reporting
  • SFE/KPI control
  • Coaching system

5.       Optimize Stakeholder Relationships

Effectively position Company products and impart product knowledge, tailored to meet the needs of the pharmacy and decision makers

Liaise with distributors & key account managers to assess current status and identify opportunities

6.       Customer Development Management     

  • Implement marketing campaigns in close collaboration with the Brand Managers and the sales teams, in alignment with the SSA strategy
  • Set up a tracking plan and monitor achievement of brand objectives and the effectiveness of the marketing activities as defined in the action plan

7.       Personal Effectiveness

  • Maintain current knowledge of Company policies and procedures, Codes and legislative requirements
  • Achieve competence in prescribed skill and knowledge

8.       Alignment of personal end company values

  • Align with the values and vision of AZ: respect; openness; honesty; integrity, diversity; leadership at all levels
  • Contribute positively towards a diverse and harmonious working environment

9.       Adverse event reporting

  • Report any adverse event that you become aware of with an Company product within 24 hours to the patient safety department

10.     Safety Health and Environment

  • Take responsibility for own well-being, health and safety and that of others
  • Comply fully with the standards and practices of the company designed to promote a safe and healthy working environment, and identify and communicate ways to continually improve SHE performance
  • Report unsafe conditions or occupational safety health risks immediately
  • Keep accurate and complete records of matters relating to SHE performance

11.     Compliance

  • No off-label discussions
  • No access to patient information
  • Submission of all required documentation for meeting approval
  • No use of unapproved materials


Minimum Requirements:

  • Management experience advantageous
  • Relevant tertiary business qualification an advantage
  • Sales and marketing experience (industry experience a distinct advantage)
  • Key Account management experience advantageous (industry experience a distinct advantage).
