Job Description

Sky's Platform Control are responsible for monitoring and control of the Sky broadcast distribution platforms, providing first line support for the Sky platform 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  This key department ensures effective operation of the diverse range of systems and timely detection and resolution of faults are in place in order to achieve the highest possible service availability for our valued customers.

As a Platform Controller, it will be your responsibility to provide support for Sky’s customer facing broadcast platforms as well as managing any incidents that arise, day to day. We want all of Sky’s content to be delivered to our customers seamlessly, no matter what platform they prefer and choose; you will ensure this happens whilst mitigating service loss and proactively making sure customers get the best possible viewing experience. All of our existing platforms are expanding and our innovative technology is always improving, your ability to react and respond rapidly to customer demand will see this expansion continue.


To be successful in this role,  you will have gained adequate work experience in an IT service or help-desk capacity, preferably within broadcast (DTH, IPTV & VOD) platforms systems and workflows. You will need to possess solid IT skills including a functional knowledge of databases, Microsoft, Unix or Linux and an understanding of networks. To be proficient in this role you should demonstrate excellent communication skills as well as displaying sound judgement and be able to make decisions with integrity and confidence. The Platform Controller requires a fluent use on the HLD and data flows on two platforms and you should have competency in navigating and understanding alerts surfaced in monitoring tools.

Resolving incidents and managing troubleshooting will be essential experience. Working efficiently individually alongside your team; building up and supporting an environment of open teamwork and a tight communication culture. Displaying resilience and being tenacious and working unambiguously under pressure will see you prosper within this role as well as displaying a keen interest to learn, either autonomously or under instruction.  

You will be educated up to A-Level or equivalent as an essential and a degree in a related subject would be highly beneficial.

Due to the nature of the role, you need to be happy to work 38.5 hours per week which consists of two shift patterns; 7pm-7am and 7am-7pm. We ensure that you will have two weekends off each month as part of your agreed shift pattern.
