Job Description

Role Purpose

Reporting to the Global CRE Chief Risk and Administration Officer, Corporate Real Estate (CRE), the individual has responsibility for shaping and driving overarching CRE business planning, financial planning and quality assurance strategy for current and future years and directing the activities and performance of the Regional team accordingly

This person acts as the Senior Aide to the CRE Head In Region providing general ad-hoc support  and includes the following responsibilities;

  • · Achievement of the cost plans for the region
  • · Achievement of the headcount plan
  • · Implementation and enforcement of the TOM
  • · Management of people issues and processes – pay reviews, performance distribution, PeopleSoft records
  • · Management of emerging quality processes
  • · Benchmarking, data and systems ownership
  • · Primary interface with Procurement, Chair or Secretary of the Procurement Board, enforcing global Procurement consistency and strategy
  • · Provide support for Mergers, Acquisitions, Disposals and Closure activity
  • · Act as conduit for regulatory activity and programmes
  • · Execute under delegated authority for CRE Head In Region


Impact on the Business / Function   

  • Administrative support and ad-hoc requests as required with planning and execution against strategy and goals, including research and scenario planning
  • Quality - managing the quality of CRE output on behalf of the Regional Head
  • Review & challenge CRE financials – e.g. ROP and GSBCs – ahead of CRE Head approval
  • Business Case & invoice approvals on behalf of CRE Head
  • Mergers, Acquisitions, Disposals & Closures (MADIC) activity – manage & coordinate CRE Head input
  • Manage the impact of the implementation of the CRE Strategy on the CRE Head's area of responsibility
  • Responsibility for creating, maintaining and monitoring Regional CRE business plans and ensuring that these plans are cascaded through country CRE plans
  • Manage the impact of the implementation of the CRE Functional TOM on the CRE Head's area of responsibility
  • Risk management governance through the Risk Management Meetings and Procurement Boards
  • Data Collection/MI reporting to support CRE requests not supported by Finance or Outsourcers
  • Provide supporting analysis for the data provided by Finance as needed, to ensure achievement of cost and headcount plans
  • Provide internal and external benchmarking and drive productivity improvement
  • Ad-hoc tasks as needed by CRE Head. Examples include:

-    Co-ordinate PeopleSoft data cleansing

-    Regulatory activity – manage & co-ordinate CRE Head input e.g. Recovery & Resolution plans, ICB coordination

-    Preparation of internal/external presentation materials


  • Ensure implementation of CRE Target Operating Model including enforcement of structures and headcount targets

Customers / Stakeholders

  • Develop and maintain a strong and professional working relationship with executive and senior management of HTS, Finance, IT, CRE, Audit, Security, Insurance, Operational Risk at regional levels
  • Define and share material that can be used to educate and provide guidelines to the CRE regional communities in relation to quality assurance
  • Define and share material that can be used to educate and provide guidelines to the CRE communities in country, in relation to governance and planning

Leadership & Teamwork

  • Co-ordinate with country CRE planning, finance and quality control functions to ensure adequate local processes and procedures are in place
  • Provide leadership and guidance across CRE countries to ensure an integrated and globally-aligned approach
  • Provide professional advisory and governance services in relation to planning, finance and quality assurance as appropriate
  • Contribute as team member of relevant major projects as part of multi-disciplinary teams, as required from time to time
  • Provide guidance and personal challenge and growth to support staff development and retention with respect to any direct reports and virtual reports across the Region

Operational Effectiveness & Control

  • Develop long term business and financial plans for CRE Head In Region
  • Ensure all HSBC country business and financial plans are in place and are compliant with overall Group plans
  • Develop a framework and processes to ensure that all HSBC countries comply with and contribute to Group reporting requirements (both functional and corporate)
  • Develop quality assurance materials relating to both regional and country CRE functions and ensure that quality assurance is measured and controlled through adequate audit processes and procedures
  • Ensure that CRE teams at regional and country level have adequate governance and quality assurance functions and processes in place, particularly with regard to regulatory, legislative and audit requirements.
  • Review and recommend action on all escalated property expenditures
  • Standardise, where appropriate systems and processes relating to planning and governance across the Region
  • Develop and/or implement metrics and KPIs in relation to governance and planning and quality and identify and implement best practice where possible
  • Leadership over all regulatory and compliance matters and the management of operational risk




  • Experienced at financial and business planning within an international HSBC environment
  • High degree of expertise and knowledge in relation to business and financial planning within a real estate context
  • Strong awareness and understanding of HSBCs internal control and operational risk environment



  • Demonstrated results in delivering material success and results in terms of budgetary management, cost reduction and financial planning
  • Demonstrated results in delivering successful quality and activity control processes across multiple functions and/or geographies
  • Demonstrated experience in managing customer and stakeholder issues in a regional context
