Chevron has major technology centres in Texas and California, with Global Technology Centres (GTC) in Aberdeen UK and Perth, Australia.
This Reliability Engineering opportunity has arisen within the Reliability & Integrity Unit of ETC. Reliability & Integrity are recognised as key to operational excellence and the R&I professionals in ETC assist business units grow and develop their expertise in this critical area as well as providing technical support to capital projects and operations.
This position provides a unique opportunity to join a dynamic global team delivering high value and differentiated reliability and integrity services, whilst interacting with upstream, midstream, and downstream functions at national and international locations. Based at the ETC Global Technology Centre in Aberdeen, ETC Reliability Engineers work collaboratively across multiple organisations, operational assets and project teams to achieve our vision for operational excellence and operating with industry leading asset integrity and performance. ETC engineers use reliability expertise, tools and techniques to identify needs, prioritise opportunities, improve performance and train individuals and teams to apply reliability best practices, tools and processes.


  • Consult with Chevron major capital projects to evaluate and execute advanced reliability studies during the front end, detailed design and execution phases of projects. This will include leading, managing or providing oversight of Reliability, Availability & Maintainability (RAM) studies to assist project selection of optimum design alternatives and operational strategies. 

  • Manage, coordinate and facilitate design for reliability (DfR) programmes for new capital projects, including reliability specification and goal setting activities, threat assessment and failure mode identification studies and development and oversight of reliability testing and assurance programmes.

  • Support operational business units with the identification of reliability improvement opportunities and assisted in delivering high impact, cost-effective solutions using advanced reliability analysis tools and techniques

  • Manage or support Strategic Research/Technology Development (SR/TD) initiatives with associated project reliability management plans. SR/TD projects are an integral part of the ETC function to develop and deploy new systems and processes based technologies. This will include provision of direct support to Technology Qualification Programmes (TQP). Current reliability work in this area includes development of new subsea processing systems for future long distance tie-back developments (for example, subsea booster pump systems, power and communications systems)

  • Application of advanced reliability tools, techniques and analyses such as fault tree analysis, life data analysis, accelerated life analysis, FMEA and LCCA and related international reliability standards and accepted reliability best practices.

  • Support the wider R&I unit activities with coordination and execution of RCM, RBI, Asset Integrity and related programmes with experience in these areas an advantage.

  • Lead and facilitate incident investigations and root cause analysis for major safety and reliability loss events. 

  • Participate in the development and delivery of Reliability training material to Chevron operations and projects staff to increase Chevron’s organisational capability in Reliability and Integrity Engineering.
  • Requirements

  • Advanced engineering degrees are desirable, preferably M.Sc in Reliability Engineering or equivalent, for example in Operations Research or Mechanical or Chemical Engineering subjects with a clear Reliability Engineering bias
  • Candidates with knowledge of major capital projects, operations & maintenance preferred. Prior experience with reliability work associated with oil and gas operations and production systems, including topsides, subsea and subsurface operations desirable. Major Oil and Gas Operator background is an advantage with a proven good track record in providing internal reliability engineering consultancy services.
  • Candidate should have extensive experience of reliability modelling, simulations and analysis software tools such as MAROS, TARO, Titan with knowledge or experience of Fault Tree, Life data Analysis and other advanced tools
  • Candidates must have the ability to work independently and as part of a global team. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required and the ability to produce high quality reports and deliver presentations to multiple levels of the organization.

  • Candidates are likely to have 10+ years Reliability Engineering experience, ideally in upstream operations. Candidates will be expected to travel to consult with projects, business units and vendors in different global locations on a regular basis.
