Job Description

Responsible for the functional direction of materials management activities on projects. Provides oversight to the Project Materials Managers on projects. Is responsible for the integrity of the work produced. Work includes, among other things, preparation, review and approval of all materials management project budgets, project specific material execution plans. Identifies performance gaps and corrects including systems, equipment and people resources. Provides leadership and instruction. Ensures work is being coordinated between the other departments, offices, fabrication shops and construction to meet project requirements. Maintains and promotes a focus on CB&I’s end product whether Engineering, Procurement, Fabrication or Construction. Ensures effective communications among Materials Management, project teams and other disciplines. Ensures effective management of change. Assumes responsibility for cost, schedule, and quantity and budget control.


  • Understands contract requirements and ability to communicate to Materials Management team.
  • Prepare and implement project-specific materials management plan.
  • Assist in ensuring that all major and minor equipment and bulk materials have been identified, purchased, delivered, and issued in accordance with project schedule.
  • Monitor and report status of equipment and materials to Project Management.
  • Manage the coordination of both company-owned and third-party fabrication shops.
  • Assist Project Management with development of execution strategies for the project as related to provision of materials and equipment.
  • Coordinate set-up of Materials Management System including schedule and interfaces.
  • Provide functional supervision and technical guidance to the team of materials management professionals on project.
  • Focal point for material issues.
  • Provide leadership and motivation to team.
  • Promote team concept.
  • Ensure sufficient staff is available.
  • Analyze schedule impacts due to late material deliveries.
  • Promptly notify project team of issues and concerns.
  • Review quantity trend information from Engineering.
  • Monitor site Materials Management to assure compliance with functional requirements.
  • Ensure effective communication among Materials Management team.
  • Ensure effective management of Materials Management Procedures as established in CMS.
  • Support construction work front planning.
  • Requirements

    Has strong proven experience in Materials Management. 

     Demonstrates extensive knowledge of systemized and physical control of construction materials and computerized inventory control systems. 

    Has extensive knowledge of EPC materials. 

     Capable of independently handling a large complex Materials Management deliverable. 

     Capable of leading a small project.
