Job Description

Responsible for supporting the sales activities in ME and Subject Matter Expertise for NGN Architecture solutions (Core Switching and Transport), targeting the Middle East market for Next Generation Core and Metro Transport networks. The role has accountability for business development initiatives, sales and systems engineering campaigns and will report into the Regional SE Director. This position is very customer facing, and requires to play a technical solutions advocate pre-sales activities including architecture modelling, solution positioning and pricing

The individual will be expected to be able to deliver key messages and drive influence into Engineering Management Level in customers contacts.


  • Present Ciena Core Switching and Transport portfolio as a solution to drive revenues through a mixture of technical, operational and commercial propositions
  • Pre-sales technical aspects, including network engineering, modelling and cost model/quotations for opportunities.
  • Serve as a “NGN Architectures Advocate”, able to convince customers around our Solution Proposition, respond to detailed specific questions and become trusted advisor to customer embarking on NGN Projects.
  • Lead in the preparation of complex sales proposals, presentations, and RFx deliverables
  • Assist in assessment of potential product features, providing input on prioritization, (Roadmap influence)
  • Lead in product acceptance testing (trials, demos)
  • Lead technical strategy for major customer account
  • Take an end-to-end view of Ciena product range and drive solutions that support customer product requirements
  • Be capable of supporting senior level dialogue with customers during network design and engineering meetings. The discussions can include topics within the OSI layer 1 and Layer 2 categories
  • Consult with customer on application of Ciena products for next generation architectures and complete network designs for these solutions
  • The ability to mentor other System Engineers within the subject matter expert
  • Influence and capture customer applications to ensure product fits with Ciena portfolio
  • Understand the evolution of Ciena’s product portfolio and articulate these plans to customers
  • Provide technical expertise to support sale of multi-product solutions
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Significant Travel expected across the Region - up to 50%



  • Expected to be a subject matter expert of::
    • Core Transport
    • Switching at layers 1 and 2
    • Metro Transport
    • Software systems for network management
  • Excellent  presentation, interpersonal and communications skills
  • Relationship skills and ability to inspire trust and influence others including senior Management
  • Technical knowledge in data networking including understanding of IP/Ethernet and other data networking protocols
  • Ability to drive RFP’s and communicate technical quotations accurately
  • Motivated technical individual with the ability to operate in an fast moving sales environment
  • Works well with customers, builds up close customer relationships with key technical primes
  • Flexible, able to handle multiple tasks with minimal supervision
  • Ability to operate and advise on network modeling/design, optimization, processes and tools
  • Professionalism in attitude and conduct– Instant gravitas with senior industry professionals is a must have attribute


  • Language skills appropriate to the EMEA Region (English, Arabic –is plus-)



  • Technical Degree; or BSEE
  • 5+ Years Proven track record within the telecommunications industry
  • Solid proven experience in the communication industry although must be commercially minded, the candidate will have a practical engineering back-ground.
