Job Description

This position provides network incident detection, response and engagement with the right tools, processes and teams, which is a key requirement for highly reliable Online Services. 
The successful individual will help analyze, triage, and repair network incidents putting software services at risk for down time. 


Providing 24x7 live site support for network incident and outage detection, triage, analysis, engagement and mitigation Investigating and diagnosing network issues in the core, backbone and edge leading to risk of or actual degradation of Online Services availability or reliability
Partnering and following up with other Services Live Site operations teams as needed to resolve networking incidents and their impact. Creating and maintaining operational documentation such as TSGs, Standard Operating Procedures, and any needed post incident review details.
This role interacts closely with engineering and tools teams across the organization to continuously drive improvement in automation and triage of network incident resolution and rapid outage detection and mitigation.


The successful candidate must be able to troubleshoot and triage networking incidents ranging from physical layer issues up to load balancing problems at layer 4 in the networking stack. The person in this role must have strong understanding of the OSI model, DNS, routing, switching, load balancing and firewalls as well as the ability to identify and troubleshoot basic network problems using general commands (ping, trace, nslookup, etc). 
Understanding of network packet captures (using Netmon or WireShark) and HTTP traces (Fiddler, etc) is expected. 
Working knowledge of layer 2 protocols such as spanning tree, layer 3 networking with IP, basic knowledge of routing protocols such as OSPF and BGP, and server load balancing is expected. 
These skills should have been applied across at least one or two networking platforms including but not limited to Cisco, Juniper, Foundry, F5, Citrix, and Brocade. 
In addition to technical skills, the successful candidate must be highly effective in written and oral communications with a set of partners located around the globe, including executives, service managers and peer engineers.

Experience Required

​The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of experience supporting large scale online services or internet service providers, preferably in a NOC, a background in network/server fault diagnosis, troubleshooting and resolution, and strong collaboration and communication skills (with a variety of audiences including engineers, executive management and customers). 
CCNA/CCNP network certification is required.
A demonstrated interest in obtaining CCIE certification a plus. Thorough experience performing packet capture analysis is highly desirable.
Working knowledge of project management or experience with NOC planning, implementation and improvement, vendor management is a plus. 
MS SQL Server 2005 or 2008 skillset is a strong plus but not required.

Basic Qualifications

2+ years supporting, managing or implementing an internet service provider, telecom or large scale network services production environment. 
1+ years of working knowledge and experience troubleshooting networks and infrastructure issues.
CCNA/CCNP network certification is required. 
BA/BS in Computer Science, Mathematics, Information Systems, Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering or equivalent education or experience.
