Job Description

Job Summary:   The South Africa Digital Editor optimizes content for the South Africa site of, mobile apps, social media, intranet and email newsletters. This role also reviews and approves content for other English-language Africa country sites, monitors site traffic and adjusts copy and content as needed to improve performance, which is based on level of traffic and usage.   The role is based in Sandton, South Africa and forms part of the Africa Brand, Marketing & Communicationsteam, which is responsible for external brand and communications, design, digital communication, events, thought leadership, alumni programme and internal communication.  The Brand, Marketing and Communication team forms part of Accounts & Business Development (ABD) in Core Business Services.   The Africa region is a single business spanning 33 countries and includes over 260 partners and 5,000 people.   The Africa region is one of the largest and most diverse businesses in EY and is made up of four service lines: Assurance, Advisory, Tax and Transaction Advisory Services.


Essential Functions of the Job:  
  • Writes, edits, reviews and approves all South Africa-based digital external content before publishing, with an emphasis on thought leadership and digital media best practices, including material for the web, extranet, mobile apps, social media, intranet and email newsletters
  • Writes, edits, reviews and approves all teasers and site copy to gain the maximum traffic and usage, as well as adheres to brand standards and search engine optimization (SEO)
  • Cross-promotes content between site sections of, homepage sections, webcasts, interior pages, mobile sites and newsletters
  • Develops and maintains relationships with brand, marketing and communication stakeholders in South Africa and African regions
  • Analyzes metrics to determine the effectiveness of the content and acts on these to improve site performance
  • Manages the digital editorial calendar and workflow process to confirm all South African and English-language African work is properly prioritized, scheduled, edited, produced and published efficiently

  • Approves all documents for accuracy, web readability, ability to scan and quality of presentation using digital media leading practices
  • Accounts for editorial decisions on placement, prioritization, editing of material and copywriting for English-language Africa sites
·         Manages the demand for projects and prioritizes resources accordingly ·         Manages projects from start to finish, including project management and stakeholder management ·         Balances competing priorities and multiple projects ·         Deals with a range of senior stakeholders with varying perspectives  ·         Willing to challenge the status quo using appropriate diplomacy


Job Requirements:   Education:
  • Three to five year degree in English, Communications or Journalism
Experience:   · Three years or more of online editorial experience · Three years or more experience working in a professional services firm · One year of experience using a CMS (Content Management System) for updating digital properties, or familiarity with basic html    Knowledge and Skills Requirements:  
  • Excellent web copywriting skills, including engaging teasers, headlines and tweets that drive traffic to pages
  • Strong ability to edit printed documents into streamlined experiences, following web usability leading practices (ability to scan)
  • Strong project management skills; develops leading practices in managing the editorial calendar and workflow
  • Strong cross-promotion skills, with an ability to relate content items across site pages and sections for relevant audiences
  • Search engine optimization skills, with a strong knowledge of leading practices; able to adapt writing and content editing to search engines
  • Multimedia skills, able to conceive how digital content in different formats (e.g., text, video, interactive) enhances the whole user experience; translates these ideas into practical executions
  • Strong relationship management skills
