Job Description

The Sr. Project Manager is a global-role based position, reporting to the Executive Director within the Center of Operational Efficiency, Innovation, and Improvement (COFII) organization. This role will help drive continuous improvement and innovative projects that deliver measurable efficiencies and optimized business processes critical to Amgen’s future. 


- Project managing the development and implementation of innovative business process improvement projects that deliver measurable gain in cost, quality and cycle time cross functionally
- Manage process change initiatives evaluating and manage the impact of process changes to functions, systems and other related process both upstream and downstream. 
- Assess alignment with other project improvement or change initiatives and deliver information back to the department if conflicts are noted
- Lead cross functional teams to develop and implement process improvements for clinical trials (may be cross-functional or function-specific in nature)
- Build and maintain strong relationships with Development leaders to understand business objectives and priorities
- Ensure projects are on time and on budget
- Facilitate the creation of project charters including well defined project objectives, success criteria, evaluation of project resource needs, and perform risk/opportunity analyses
- Schedule and facilitate team meetings (includes setting agendas, writing meeting minutes and tracking action items to ensure completion)
-  Work with Development Finance to define and track project savings
- Develop communication plans, stakeholder analyses, implementation plans and training plans
- Utilize Amgen process improvement tools and methodologies
- Act as liaison between functions and IS representatives as required on assignment
- Work with Process Owners to develop oversight criteria and action plans
- Work with Standards to document business practices and/or Standard Operating Procedures
- Keep supervisor informed of project status and issues


Doctorate degree & 2 years of directly related experience OR

 Master’s degree & 6 years of directly related experience OR

 Bachelor’s degree & 8 years of directly related experiences OR

Associate’s degree & 10 years of directly related experiences OR

High school diploma / GED & 12 years of directly related experience

Preferred Qualifications

BA/BS/BSc in the sciences or RN
Project Management Professional certification

 9 years work experience in life science or medically related field

 6 years experience working in clinical site management (working on clinical trials at a biotech, pharmaceutical or CRO company)

Strong knowledge of the Functional Service Provider Operational Model

Attention to quality planning and execution

Experience in a project management role, including use of project planning tools

Experience in internal communications and change management
