Job Description

Responsible for overall health, performance and availability of associated technical stack, e.g. NAS. Ensure that work stream performs the necessary tasks and activities to meet agreed Operating Levels, and provide 3rd line expert support in the event P1 or P2 incidents.


Key Responsibilities include:


Customer Engagement:

  • Ensuring high service delivery and customer satisfaction for storage;
  • Becoming a single point of contact to represent Storage during P1/P2 or War Room Scenarios


Infrastructure Management:

  • Managing physical and logical SAN storage, fabric, NAS infrastructure configurations to ensure optimum performance, utilisation and availability
  • Technical planning for all upgrade to storage firmware and management software to appropriate version levels;
  • Continuously enhancing storage management processes to improve storage service levels;
  • Ensuring that all technical assets are checked on a frequent basis (in some cases daily) for Hardware failures, performance bottlenecks and errant configurations
  • Review of all incoming high profile projects, to ensure that Operational Acceptance Criteria (OAC) is met, pushing back on projects that do not meet to agreed criteria
  • Coordinating the generation of regular storage utilisation and capacity reports;


Incident Management:

  • Providing expert assistance and intervention in the event of Problems, high priority incidents (P2) and major production incidents (P1)
  • Responding to and resolving storage related Incidents and provisioning requests;
  • Escalating storage Incidents to Storage Support Manager as appropriate;
  • Raising Incidents and work orders with other platform teams and vendors as required and liaising with them to resolve storage-related issues.


Work Order Management:

  • Co-Ordinating work load between team members to ensure timely delivery within agreed OLAs
  • Providing technical quality assurance for work stream’s deliverables
  • Fulfilment of Storage Allocations when required


Change Management:

  • Impact assessing all high impact changes
  • Representing high impact changes at Change Approval Board and/or other colleague engagement forums


People Management

  • Management of the work stream’s workload (Incidents, Work Orders, Changes etc.)
  • Assisting the Storage Support Manager in all recruitment of new headcount, to ensure that candidates meet the required technical competence
  • Assisting in quarterly Professional Development Plans for work stream team members
  • Providing junior team members with on the job training and/or mentoring to ensure that the team’s skillsets are appropriate to the needs of Sky


Essential Skills

  • Experience with EMC and NetApp storage systems including: Symmetrix (DMX-3, VMAX) storage arrays, NetApp FAS/V-class NAS devices;
  • Experience with Brocade and Cisco SAN departmental and director-class switch technologies.
  • Experience with EMC storage mgmt. software such as: EMC/Ionix Control Centre, PowerPath, SYMCLI; SMC (Symmetrix Management Centre), SPA (Symmetrix Performance Analyser)
  • Experience with disaster recovery methodologies and data replication technologies, including: EMC SRDF/A, EMC TimeFinder, BCV, Clones, Workload Analyser Snapshots
  • Experience with NetApp ONTAP, multi-protocol NAS file systems (CIFS, NFS), NetApp Operations Manager, Snap Manager/Snapshots;
  • Deep technical administration experience with SAN storage, NAS, and SAN fabric technologies in a large scale corporate environment;
  • UnixLinux Command Line
  • Monitoring & Alerting implementation & improvements

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with EMC and NetApp storage systems including: EMC CLARiiON, EMC Celerra NAS devices, IBM XIV Gen3, IBM V Series
  • McData switch;
  • EMC Celerra
  • NAS integration with Microsoft Active Directory
  • NetApp’s OnCommand Insight (SANScreen)
  • DataFort Implementation, support and Maintenance
  • System administration and scripting skills on Windows and UNIX environments;
  • Familiarity with database technologies (Microsoft SQL, Oracle) is also desired;
  • Deep (10 years +) technical administration experience with SAN storage, NAS, and SAN fabric technologies in a large scale corporate environment;
