Job Description

Member of the Subsea Engineering Center of Excellence (CoE), which provides technical expertise to the Upstream Major Capital Projects and Base Business organizations. CoE employees fill various positions, including research and development, short term consulting/problem solving, with potential for long term secondment to Major Capital Projects or Strategic Business Units. 


  • Provide technical support to major capital projects
  • Typical roles may include project scoping, concept selection, FEED and detailed design, fabrication, installation and/or operation of subsea facilities. 
  • It is anticipated that both international and domestic business travel to locales with subsea operations will be required. Such locations could include West Africa, Indonesia, North & South America, Australia & Europe. Offshore medical clearance and offshore survival certification will also be required
  • Requirements

  • Strong oil industry experience required, with likely 5+ years related to a Subsea discipline.
  • Pipeline Construction knowledge - likely 10+ years experience in offshore pipeline related work, knowledge of pipeline and related structure fabrication, pipeline system construction, pipeline installation methods, riser installation and riser pull-in equipment, vessel audits, pipeline pre-commissioning, fabrication and system integration of subsea flowlines and pipelines, capabilities of associated supply and installation pipelines contractors, horizontal directional drilling and shore pull methods.
  • Ability to verify installation contractor proposed pipelay methods, review contractor fabrication plan, evaluate contractor's installation vessels, review or assist in the development of construction related specifications, and review of contractors contingency plans.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and focus on fabrication, installation, and construction aspects of the pipelines and their related structures (in-line sleds, termination sleds, suction pile).
  • Pipeline Design knowledge: likely 5+ years experience in offshore pipeline related work, knowledge of design, fabrication and system integration of subsea flowlines and pipelines, capabilities of associated supply and installation pipelines contractors, applicable industry and regulatory codes, standards, and recommended practices of subsea export pipelines and flowlines, able to perform and review cost estimates and front-end engineering design for pipelines and related facilities, knowledge of contractor activities, including technical clarifications, vessel auditing and contract
  • Flexible Pipe experience : likely 10+ years experience with flexible pipe design, manufacturing and installation either with a major operator or flexible pipe manufacturer. 
  • Ability to provide flexible pipe technical expertise to customers, including performing high level design analysis and developing functional design requirements and specifications.
  • Good knowledge of industry standards in relation to flexible pipe qualification testing requirements, manufacturing, inspection, and installation and offshore test procedures, topsides and subsea interfaces, integrity management systems for flexible pipes.
  • Ability to perform feasibility studies in relation to field development with flexible pipe solution, experience on flexible supply and installation bid evaluation, reviewing and commenting on flexible pipe design and other related documentation (e.g. specifications, scopes of work, and procedures), directing and overseeing engineering contractor's technical work scopes
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate and direct the efforts of others to achieve exceptional performance standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision, be self-directing, and exhibit due diligence in pursuit of objectives. 
  • Experienced in project controls, including effective work planning, risk assessment, contingency plans, contract management, and demonstrated business acumen. 
  • Strong communicator, who excels at building relationships with customers, contractors and colleagues.
