Job Description

The position is primarily a support consultant assisting end users with realising data from the Teradata based EDW.

The role will also include wider support functions such as investigating data issues of both sandbox users but also those raised by Cognos users and therefore a broad portfolio of database and support skills are required. It is important that the candidate can work within a multi-disciplined team, have good interpersonal skills and can demonstrate flexibility. The candidate must be capable of applying innovative approaches to solving design and technical issues and communicating these solutions to others.

The post holder will have experience of supporting a daily production data load process, using ETL tools such as Oracle Data Integrator.
The successful candidate for this role will also need to work with functional and technical project managers, with Cognos Designers and Data Architects to determine the appropriate documentation and support processes required to provide an expert data warehousing environment based on Teradata.


Analytical Skills - Skill and ability to: collect, organize, synthesize, and analyze data; summarize findings; develop conclusions and recommendations from appropriate data sources at the work group level.

Data Model/Architecture - General ability to build conceptual (Cognos), logical (systems), and/or physical (database) models using computer tools. Integrates models across domains and applications and translates models from one level (e.g. conceptual) to another (logical).

Release & Configuration Mgmt - General ability to manage all software configuration items and the installation and cutover of the computing products within a given scope.

Requirements - Extensive knowledge of how to derive and allocate requirements (e.g. system, sub-system, software) and show traceability throughout the project lifecycle

Typical Education/Experience 

Advanced Teradata SQL.

Teradata Physical Database Design and Database Tuning.

Oracle Data Integrator.

The candidate should have experience of all stages of the development lifecycle using Teradata data warehouses, fault finding and support, experience of developing/supporting feeds using Teradata utilities and also evidence of database tuning and physical design.
