Job Description

Job Summary:

Under general supervision, employees of this technical class perform duties such as: updating and/or creating design drawings using computer aided design (CAD) technology; communicating with other team members; conducting research; reading and/or interpreting blueprints, survey documents, or sketches; proofing or comparing the information contained on drawings with information from different sources; measuring distances, areas, perimeters, and angles; and uses computer applications to enter, query information. Performs a wide-variety of designing and engineering support activities as listed above, or performs a specific function on a full-time basis. Employees may meet with other personnel as work assignments dictate. On a technical level, may assist in resolving reported problems in the field. May be exposed to field conditions and confined spaces.

Duties and Responsibilities:

* Communicates with engineers, contractors, developers, surveyors, planners, real estate representatives, local officials, utilities, general public, and others to answer questions about departmental operations and/or procedures. Serves as a liaison between field and office personnel.

* Uses appropriate computational methods, existing source documentation or
Autodesk software tools to develop, populate and manage CAD data on behalf of the
Company and/or Prospective Client.

* May convert design drawings and related information into different formats, including the interpretation of survey bearings and distances to properly input new data to appropriate CAD layer for reference.

* Performs quality control and quality assurance (QA/QC) on department-specific
CAD data. Compares information on digital maps to hard-copy information and checks for accuracy.

* Compares legal survey documents with current CAD information.

* Documents CAD data creation, management and quality assurance (QA/QC)

* Assists other employees within relevant department with access to, and development of, specific CAD data.

* Produces high-quality reports from CAD, and other related data.

* Queries, displays and produces hard-copy output from CAD data for information.
Prepares/mounts visual displays to be used in presentations.

* Reads and reviews construction plans, hand sketches and other related information. Interprets the information found on these sources and checks for accuracy and consistency. In some cases, independent sources of data may be used to verify information.

* Performs calculations (e.g., area, distance, perimeter, etc.) using appropriate technical device.

Experience, Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

* Possess an HND or Bachelors degree in Engineering, Architecture, Planning, Geography, Surveying or a closely related field from an accredited college, university or technical school;

* Have had at least (2) years of full-time experience performing computer
engineering, community planning, surveying, or architectural work with a focus on CAD.

Additional Desirable Qualifications:

* Considerable knowledge and experience with the techniques, practices, methods and procedures of computer aided design.

* Considerable ability to follow complex written and oral instructions on simultaneous assignments.

* Considerable ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with other employees and prospective Clients.

* Considerable knowledge Autodesk software modules.

* Considerable ability to read design drawings, maps and sketches.

* Reasonable ability to sketch concepts for graphic representation.

* Reasonable ability to perform mathematical and statistical computations.

* Some knowledge of the techniques, practices, methods and procedures of land
surveying, including the operation of modern electronic surveying instruments and
traditional tools such as transit, level, and rod.

* Considerable ability to make routine decisions in accordance with established
departmental policies and procedures.

* Considerable knowledge of and ability to practice standard safety techniques.
