Job Description

The Director Observational Research will head the EU & EEMEA Center for Observational Research (CfOR). Specifically, the Director will:
• Lead, manage and motivate EU & EEMEA CfOR staff
• Set the strategic direction of EU & EEMEA CfOR
• Contribute to strategic, technical and managerial leadership and organizational improvement within CfOR


• Hire, manage, mentor and develop staff
• Develop and implement observational research strategies to advance understanding of the nature and burden of diseases, including incidence, prevalence, comorbidities, outcomes, risk factors and therapies 
• Team leadership, coaching and engagement to further develop OR strategies
• Contribute to the development and implementation of organization’s scientific strategy and programs; monitor progress and recommend course corrections as appropriate
• Promote, communicate, and be expert in specific OR methodologies and medical/clinical understanding within the group, and contribute to scientific advances in the field
• Contribute to Development Teams in development of product strategy, strategic product plans, clinical protocols, and filing of regulatory documents
• Develop and maintain long-term relationships with key opinion leaders at a regional level, including academics, regulators and other industry leaders
• Promote and communicate OR awareness and the role of CfOR (internal/external; scientific/process)
• Communicate and/or present leading edge scientific/technical information and knowledge to a diverse set of audiences
• Chair group meetings and contribute to CfOR senior staff meetings, European R&D Leadership Forum meetings and European Development Management Team meetings
• Manage Amgen’s engagement in specific external collaborations in Europe


Basic Qualifications 
• Doctorate in Epidemiology or field with high epidemiologic content, or Medical degree with Masters degree in Epidemiology or field with high epidemiologic content
• 10 years experience post-doctorate in the design, execution, and analysis of observational research studies within the Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology, or Public Health setting in Industry, Government or Academia 
• Published in epidemiology or clinical journals 
• Leadership, team development and coaching experience

Preferred Qualifications
• 15+ years experience post doctorate
• Regional / international reputation in the field
• Epidemiological contributions to regulatory and/or reimbursement submissions
• Project, Budget and Expenditure Management
• Mastery of global regulatory requirements for pharmacovigilance 
• International cooperation and team working
• External visibility (e.g., Industry committees/forums, links to academia)
• Experience and/or interest in relevant disease/therapeutic areas
• Experience of working with large medical care databases
