Job Summary

A position has become available for a Manufacturing Engineer at the Stafford facility. This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly flexible and dedicated team, playing a key-supporting role within the business. Working with a team of Process Manufacturing Engineers to improve and develop existing machining processes, this role operates in a high functioning machining-based environment. 

This cross-functional role involves the application of sound technical Manufacturing Engineering and leadership skills in a Process based environment, with responsibility for Projects and Production support. The successful candidate will utilise experience and knowledge gained through exposure to a range of functions/ activities within a Manufacturing Engineering/ Process environment. This role represents an exciting step forward for individuals wishing to develop core skills and gain a broader understanding of the supporting business processes necessary to enable products transformed in the factory. 

Job Responsibilites

• Analyse requirements and make recommendations for facility systems, processes, training, equipment needs, and engineering product designs
• Drive waste out of the processes through the use of lean manufacturing tools and techniques.
• Provide solutions to production issues and drive resolution to the route cause
• Complete both specialised and broad-based assignments / projects which may require collaboration and integration with other functions
• Evaluate projects and prepare feasibility studies to define desired results, assess value proposition and determine project plans
• Analyse, provide specifications and perform acquisition for new or replacement machine tools
• Perform capital forecasting correlation and reporting as it relates to new product introduction, product capacity increases, machine replacement and process continuous improvement
• Perform process improvement activities to reduce material and machining cost
• Analyse tooling failures and evaluate tool characteristics and requirements
• Develop and implement assembly processes in line with Caterpillar standard processes
• Improving existing manufacturing operations, incorporating new methods and processes
• Investigating operational problems affecting production and dealing with a systematic approach 
• Planning the use of resources and scheduling activities in order to meet an objective.
• Preparing manufacturing documentation required for product manufacture.
• Providing Manufacturing data
• Running meetings with other teams
• Understanding and analysing graphs and statistics and other complex information
• Training staff and operators on manufacturing processes and tools
• Drive operations teams through standard work
• Working within Caterpillar and Perkins Health & Safety standards

• University degree or equivalent qualification in a manufacturing engineering-related discipline
• Thorough knowledge of manufacturing concepts
• Good understanding of lean manufacturing principles
• Previously manufacturing engineering-related experience (advantageous)
• Good communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills
• Knowledge and experience of working in a machining environment and metal-cutting processes 

Desired Qualifications: 

Expertise of Manufacturing systems (elements of VPPA would be highly advantageous)
• Previous leadership experience is desirable 
• Sound knowledge MFGPro and other business systems
• AutoCad design system qualified
• Experience in project management (Manufacturing biased) 
• Intermediate/advance knowledge and usage of MS Office packages 
• Process/systems orientated background
• Detailed knowledge of Manufacturing lean techniques would be beneficial but not mandatory – training will be provided
• Ability to work with a diverse group of employees and customers
• Self motivated and able to work under own supervision
